Information

What does this mean?

We subscribe to an IP address reputation scoring system and their database is reporting that your internet address is malicious. This database is updated frequently via their internal processes, but if you feel this is in error or would like additional information, visit BrightCloud and enter the IP Address from this error page.

What can I do to remediate?

There are two steps that can be taken:

  1. Visit the BrightCloud remediation request page and tell them that they’re falsely marking you. This request may take up to 48 hours to be processed.
  2. After contacting Brightcloud, should the user have an immediate need to access UNC resources, have the user connect to VPN if VPN is installed. If VPN is not installed, attempt to install it via help.unc.edu or vpn.unc.edu: vpn.unc.edu is a website that will run through the download and installation process for AnyConnect. Users may have better luck installing from here rather than help.unc.edu

If the above options to install the VPN fail, the user can try the following:

  • Contact their ISP to request the IP address be changed so the user can connect and install VPN
  • Use a cell phone as a mobile hotspot and tether the connection to the computer so the user can connect and install VPN
  • Connect the device to a different wifi network so the user can connect and install VPN
