Connect to NAS / Secure NAS

Intro

The process to connect to NAS or Secure NAS is different for the various operating systems.  Instructions below are provided for connecting from:

  • Windows 
  • Mac

Information

Connect from Windows 

To access via “Map Network Drive”

1. Go to the main Windows 8 start screen.

2. Type the letter “c” to see a list of applications starting with c

3. Select the “Computer” application (outlined in white above)

4. Select “Map Network Drive” from the top Menu Bar (see above)

5. If your computer is a member of active directory and you are already authenticated to ad.unc.edu:

  • 6. Referencing the image above, choose the drive letter you would like to use.
  • In the “Folder” section, replace “departmental” with the name of your departmental volume.  Contact your local IT support if you do not know the name of the volume.
  • Click “Finish”

6. To access via “Map Network Drive” specifying alternate credentials:

  • Referencing the image above, choose the drive letter you would like to use.
  • In the “Folder” section, replace “department” with the name of your departmental share.  Contact your local IT support if you do not know the name of the share.
  • Check the box for “Connect using different credentials”
  • Click “Finish” and you will be prompted for credentials.  Please replace “onyen” with your actual onyen.

Connect from Mac

Access via “Connect to Server…”

1. From the Finder, Select “Go” and then “Connect to Server..”\

2. Enter the Server Address: (cifs://secnas.unc.edu/department) and click “Connect”.

Note: replace department with the name of your departmental share.

3. Enter your Onyen and Password and then Click “Connect”

4. Select the appropriate volume from the list provided.  Click “OK”
