Access Outlook Email on Web Browsers

  1. On your computer, launch your preferred web browser (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Apple Safari).
  2. In the browser's address bar, type heelmail.unc.edu and press Enter.  

            

  1. Sign in to your UNC email using your onyen@ad.unc.edu as your username and Onyen password.

 

  1. When prompted for Multifactor Authentication, verify your identity using the Microsoft Authenticator app, a text message, or a phone call..

Once your identity is verified, you'll be taken directly to your UNC email inbox, similar to how it works in the Outlook app.

 

Create Desktop Shortcuts

A desktop shortcut allows you to quickly access a website without needing to browse through your bookmarks or type the URL.


Windows 10 / 11

  1. Open your web browser (Chrome, Edge, or Firefox)
  2. Open heelmail.unc.edu and sign in if prompted
  3. Resize the browser window so that both the desktop and browser window are visible.
  4. Click the URL (heelmail.unc.edu) in the address bar to highlight it.
  5. Drag and drop the highlighted URL from the address bar to the desktop

 

macOS

  1. Open your web browser (Chrome, Edge, or Firefox)
  2. Open heelmail.unc.edu and sign in if prompted
  3. Resize the browser window so that both the desktop and browser window are visible.
  4. Click the URL (heelmail.unc.edu) in the address bar to highlight it.

Create Favorites or Bookmarks

Google Chrome

  1. Open Chrome and navigate to heelmail.unc.edu 
  1. Click the star icon on the right side of the address bar

  1. In the pop-up box, name the bookmark and choose a folder then select Done.

 

Microsoft Edge

  1. Open Microsoft Edge and navigate to heelmail.unc.edu
  2. Select the Add this page to favorites button in the address bar.
  3. Optionally, rename the bookmark or choose a folder.
  4. Click Done.

 

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open Firefox and navigate to heelmail.unc.edu 
  2. Click the star icon in the address bar. The star will turn blue, indicating the page is bookmarked.
  3. In the pop-up window, you can rename, move, or tag the bookmark.
  4. Click Save.

 

Apple Safari

  1. Open Safari and navigate to heelmail.unc.edu 
  1. Click the Bookmarks menu and select Add Bookmark

  1. Select Favorites and click Add
