Information

A VoIP “soft client,” or softphone, is an application that enables users to make calls from their computers using VoIP services. Popular examples include Google Voice and Skype. At UNC Telecommunications, PING by ClearSpan is the designated softphone.

PING functions as a virtual version of your office phone, allowing you to make and receive voice and video calls, send messages, and more, all using your UNC phone number. It can be installed on multiple devices and is available for Windows, macOS, web browsers, iOS, and Android.

 

In This Article:

 

Ping Installation and Sign-In on PC/Mac

  1. Locate the download at ClearSpan website.
  2. Select the appropriate desktop application for Windows, Mac (Intel), or Linux.
  3. Once downloaded, launch the executable file.

 

  1. Select Sign In.

 

  1. Enter the custom config domain: uncch.clearspanuc.com

  1. Select Continue With SAML (ONYEN Sign In Only)

 

  1. Enter ONYEN and password or Carolina Key Sign In:

 

  1. Select Continue.

 

Ping is now signed in and the home page will load.

PING Installation and Sign-In on iOS/Android Mobile Devices

  1. Download PING

OR

  • Scan the applicable QR code below.

 

  1. Once downloaded, Open the app and select Enter custom config domain.
  2. Enter ping.uncch.clearspanuc.com as the config domain and select OK.

 

  1. Select Sign In With SAML (ONYEN Sign In Only)

 

  1. Enter ONYEN and password:

 

  1. Select Continue.

Ping is now signed in. 

 

PING Use Within Web Browser

Open your browser and go to ClearSpan website https://uc.clearspanuc.com

  • No download is required.
  • PING has been certified with Google Chrome. Other common browsers work, though have not been certified.

Go to Desktop for instruction on how to sign-in with Single Sign On. 

 

Personal Conference Room (PCR)

The Personal Conference Room is secure on-demand meeting space for internal and external participants.

Meetings can be scheduled with Outlook Calendar or Google Calendar Add-Ins or sharing the PCR link displayed in your personal conference room.

Hovering your cursor over an icon displays a tool tip denoting the icons function. From left to right, they are:

  • Mute/Unmute your microphone
  • Turn your video camera on or off
  • Turn on/off screen sharing
  • Turn on/off Tile View
  • Chat
  • Enable automatic tracking of the active speaker
  • Show/Hide the participant list
  • Select your background
  • Enter/Exit Full Screen Mode
  • End Call

 

PING Chat

Chat is a one-to-one communication that retains the history of all activity. You can message, call and share images or files. You can only chat with individuals that are licensed to use PING. 

To add a chat contact:

  1. , Click the “+” sign to the right of chat. This will bring up a dialog box where you can search for other users.
  2. Type your contact’s name to see a list of options.

 

PING Collaboration Rooms (Teams)

Teams is a multi-party communication between groups of internal users that retains the history of all activity.

To create a new Team:

  1. Click the "+" sign next to the Team icon.
  2. Give the Team a name and make it public or private.
  1. Invite others to the room after it has been created by clicking on the three dots next to the team name and select Invite People.
