The purpose of this knowledge article is to inform IT administrators and UNC users about Remote Access Monitoring and Management Tool restrictions that are enforced via CrowdStrike..
Overview
Beginning October 2026, the Information Security Office will be coordinating with campus units to report upon and limit the ability of UNC-CH computers to run remote access tools such as ScreenConnect, TeamViewer, and AnyDesk as these have featured prominently in cybersecurity incidents over the past year, often after a ‘click-fix’ attack in a web browser.
- If you or your vendor need to use these tools to manage a UNC-CH device, please reach out to your local IT support with a request for an exception.
- If you are unsure of who provides IT support for you, you can instead submit a request here.
- If an exception is needed and the request is approved by your unit, they can request a change from the Information Security Office that we will complete within two business days.
