RDMC UNC Dataverse: Sharing Research Data

This article describes how to share research data in UNC Dataverse.

 

Sharing Research Data

UNC researchers and affiliates can create a UNC Dataverse account and begin sharing their research data. You can share your data by:

  • depositing project data in UNC Dataverse.
  • creating a searchable catalog record in UNC Dataverse that points to an external data location.

The following sections provide instructions for how to perform these approaches in UNC Dataverse.

 

Depositing Project Data

If you have selected UNC Dataverse as the repository for sharing your project data, follow the steps below to deposit your datasets. For more detailed guidance, refer to the UNC Dataverse User Guide.

  1. Log in to UNC Dataverse (https://dataverse.unc.edu/)
  2. Navigate to your project dataverse.
  3. Click on the + Add Data button and select New Dataset.

  1. Enter descriptive metadata and upload files.
  2. Click on the Save Dataset button.
  3. Click on the Publish Dataset button.

 

Creating Project Catalog Record

For project data that are deposited in a repository other than UNC Dataverse, follow the steps below to create a catalog record to facilitate discovery and access of those datasets. For more detailed guidance, refer to the UNC Dataverse User Guide.

  1. Log in to UNC Dataverse (https://dataverse.unc.edu/)
  2. Navigate to your project dataverse.
  3. Click on the + Add Data button and select New Dataset.

  1. Enter descriptive metadata that includes specific information on the location of the dataset (e.g., Direct URL, DOI, Repository Name, etc).
  2. Click on the Save Dataset button.
  3. Click on the Publish Dataset button.
