This article provides a quick reference table for the roles and corresponding permissions available in REDCap projects. It is designed to help REDCap users and study teams understand the level of access associated with each role and assign responsibilities appropriately.
The REDCap@UNC team has established pre-defined roles that control access to essential functions such as project design, data entry, data export, reporting, and user management. The standardized roles include: Principal Investigator (PI), Project Lead (PL), Co-Investigator (Co-I), Data Manager (DM), Study Coordinator (SC), Data Entry (DE), Biostatistician (BioStat), and Data Monitor (DMon).
All REDCap projects are expected to utilize these standardized roles when assigning team members to ensure data security, consistency, and operational clarity across the institution. Custom role creation is strongly discouraged as it introduces unnecessary complexity and increases the risk of permission inconsistencies.
