This article covers the servers used to configure devices requiring the Network Time Protocol (NTP).
Intro
Some systems and devices will require configuration of Network Time Protocol (NTP). The University provides NTP servers for campus users.
Information
What are the campus Network Time Protocol (NTP) servers?
NTP (Network Time Protocol) provides accurate and consistent time references to coordinate and synchronize internet systems and communications. ITS now has 3 local Stratum 1 time servers. These servers all participate in an advanced Anycast NTP solution sharing the same IP address, meaning you only need to configure ONE IP address to get the redundancy of 3 servers. The IP address that you should use as your NTP server is:
152.2.253.126 clock1.unc.edu
For the vast majority of users, just configuring this one IP address is all that is needed. Some operating systems may require you to configure more than one NTP server. In that case, choose one of the management IP addresses below as the secondary NTP server.
