Introduction

Image Source: USB Boot Media & UNC Network. Image Time:  Approx. 1.5 – 2 hours

Information

You will need boot media specifically configured for the UNC-CH solution, which you can obtain from UNC Shareware.

This process only works when the computer is connected via ethernet to the UNC Network and is registered for DHCP. This will not work for off-campus machines.

Image Process:

Insert your boot media and turn your computer on. Press the F12 key when you see the Lenovo logo similar to the screen below.

Pressing the F12 key should bring you to the device startup menu where you can choose to boot from your external media. Select the media from the boot menu and press enter to continue.

The boot media will load the SCCM operating system deployment environment. From the first screen of the task sequence wizard click Next.

  1. Click Exit to stop here and reboot.
  2. Click Continue to erase the hard drive and continue to the task sequence selection screen.
  3. Click the close button to skip erasing the hard drive and continue to the task sequence selection screen. (This can be useful if using the media with other task sequences that may not require a complete re-image)

On the next screen you will be presented with the task sequences available to your computer. This can vary depending on whether or not the computer are re-imaging was previous connected to the UNC-CH AD domain and under SCCM management. Choose the task sequence and click Next.

If you see the screen below you may skip it by clicking Next. The values available are not used with the CCI image.

Lastly you will be prompted to select the software load you would like to deploy. Make your selection and then click Begin Deployment. If joining the domain make sure to use an account with domain join permissions. Only use the ONYEN or account name for the ID, do not include the domain in the the ID.

Image completion times will vary depending on operating system and hardware being deployed. Please allow at least 2 hours for the image to complete. A message will be displayed asking to shutdown or reboot, indicating that the image has completed. At this point your computer will be prepared for its first use. The next time the computer is booted it will begin the process to create a new user account.
