Adding Devices
If you are using a system that regularly requires you to verify with 2-Step, it’s best to register at least two devices to your account, in case you leave your mobile phone at home or aren’t near your landline phone.
Follow these steps to add devices:
- Go to Onyen Services site and click 2-Step Verification for Duo.
- Click Login to sign in with your Onyen or guest ID.
- User will need to login to SSO
If(and only if) you have device registered already, they will be listed here, click Yes if you want to make changes
- if you don't already have any devices registered click the button labeled Manage My Duo Devices.
- You’ll need to login to SSO a 2nd time.
Important: The process to add a new device will be different at this point for users who have already registered a Duo device and those (new users) without a Duo device.
If you already have registered a device, authenticate with your existing Duo device. Then click Add a device.
.
- If this is your first time registering a Duo device, you will see several welcome screens with information about security threats and how to protect yourself with 2-step. Click Next for all these welcome screens.
- On the Select an option screen, click Duo Mobile..
You can select other options that are appropriate for you. Duo Mobile is the recommended option, it is a smartphone app for 2-step verification that can also be installed on Android tablets and iPads.
- Enter your phone and click Continue.
- To confirm the phone number is correct, click Yes, it’s correct.
- You will be sent a text message with a passcode to confirm your phone number. Enter the passcode and click Verify.
- Download the Duo mobile app on your smartphone or tablet via the appropriate app store.
Android
Apple
- Once you have installed the app on your device, click Next.
- You will be shown a QR scan code to scan with the Duo App. In the Duo App on your device, click Add button.
- Then tap Use QR code
- Once you scan the QR Code with your (internet-connected) device, the Duo Central app responds by displaying a checkmark.
- Duo Central displays a message confirming the successful registration. Click Continue
- You will be offered the option to register another 2-Step device. It is recommended to have more than 1 way to authenticate with 2-Step, in case you lose your primary device:
- Some of these options may not be available, or will not be able to be successfully registered, depending on the level of support for your Browser and OS combinations, at the time you register. Click Skip for now to proceed
- Once you have finished adding devices Duo Central displays “Setup completed!” Click the button Log in with Duo to test the setup:
- You’ll see a screen similar to this (if you have registered a phone or tablet) while Duo waits for you to acknowledge the authentication request
- On your device you’ll receive a notification, open the Duo app and select the green or approve option to continue:
- Once you approve the request on your device, you will be logged in to Duo Central, and will see the devices you have just registered, as well as the option to add more:
When you are finished, you can click the Logout link the top right corner, and close your browser

- Go to Onyen Services and click “2-Step Verification for Duo”.
- Click LOGIN button
- On Single Sign-On, sign in with your Onyen or Guest ID
- Current Duo devices are displayed

- You will be prompted to authenticate with Duo. For example, send a Duo push to your mobile phone.
- Once the Duo Push is acknowledged on your device you can proceed!
- The Duo Central interface displays the devices that you have registered.
- In this example we will remove the Security Key device. Click the Edit link then select Delete.
- Confirm you want to delete the device in the displayed popup. The device will be removed and is no longer available to use, and is not display in Duo Central.
Now you can log out and close the browser window.
Reactivating Devices
If you need to activate a new device with the same phone number, follow these instructions:
- Go to Onyen Services and click “2-Step Verification for Duo”.
- Click LOGIN button
- On Single Sign-On, sign in with your Onyen or Guest ID
- Current Duo devices are displayed
- Under the question Would you like to make any changes?, click YES.
- Click Manage My Duo Devices.
- On the Single Sign-On, Sign in with your Onyen or Guest ID for a 2nd time.
- Since this process is used when you want to replace a currently registered device with a new device(presumably on the same phone number), sending a Duo push to the currently registered device may not be the best Duo authentication option. Instead chose the option to send a text passcode to the phone number (or a phone call if applicable)
- Click the Send a Passcode button
- Enter the Passcode then click Verify
- Your currently registered devices in Duo Central is displayed
- Under the phone you want to update, click I Have a New Phone
- Click the Get Started button
- Download the Duo mobile app to your new device, if you haven’t already
- Open the app and click the +Add button
- Click the Use QR Code button
- Scan the QR code displayed by the Duo Central app
Your device should be reactivated.
Reporting Lost Devices
If you registered more than one device, you can still use the alternate device to authenticate.
If your device was the only one registered, you will need to call the Service Desk at 962-HELP for assistance.
In the future we recommend you set up an alternative device/option. Please see Adding Devices instructions.
Verifying Methods
Providing your Onyen and password is step one. Step two is confirming your log in attempt with a second device. Duo provides several ways to confirm it’s really you. Depending on the version of the Duo prompt you see you’ll do one of the following:
- An automatic request to authenticate using your last used authentication method. To switch methods, click Other Options to see a list of the authentication methods you have set up for all devices. (Duo Universal Prompt)
- Authentication options for your default device. If you want to use a different device, select the device you want to use from the Device drop-down menu. Then select the method you want to use for that specific device. (Duo Prompt)
Using an incognito or private browser will block Duo’s ability to send an automatic authentication request to your last used method.
Duo Push
- Click Duo Push.
- An alert will display on your smartphone or tablet.Open the Duo Mobile app and tap the Approve button to authenticate.
Phone call to your landline
- Click Phone Call. You will receive a telephone call from Duo on the telephone number listed first in your Duo profile.
- Answer the telephone and, when prompted, press any key to authenticate.
SMS (Text)
- Click Text message passcode. You will receive a single-use passcode.
- Type the SMS passcode.
