Zoom Identity Verification

ID verification via Zoom (or in-person) is required for certain support requests that involve access and/or changes to accounts or authentication methods (e.g., password resets, multi-factor authentication changes, etc.).

For security purposes, this verification cannot be done via a phone call or chat.

 

Requirements prior to joining Zoom

Please have the following prepared before calling the Service Desk:

  • An acceptable form of ID, in order of preference these include:
    • UNC OneCard (physical or digital)
    • Unexpired US Driver’s License or Passport/Passport Card
    • Foreign Passport (in English, or at-minimum with English Visa section)
  • Computer with a working web camera or phone with the Zoom mobile app
  • A stable Internet connection to support video
  • Proper lighting to ensure support staff can see your full face and ID

 

Joining Zoom

To initiate Zoom for ID verification, please first call the Service Desk at 919-962-HELP (4357) to begin support. Once you have contacted the Service Desk, support staff will direct you which Zoom meeting to join and provide you with the password.

Guidelines for Zoom verification

Once you join Zoom, for support staff to verify your identity, you must:

  • Disable any virtual or blurred backgrounds to ensure your ID is picked up by the camera and increase security reliability
  • Remove any facial coverings to ensure your entire face is visible
  • Ensure proper lighting and clean lens is available so your face and ID are clearly visible
  • Support staff are not required to turn on their video feed
  • When asked, hold your ID, showing both sides fully, up to the camera as depicted below so your face and ID are both visible at the same time:
