SAS: Installing version 9.4 on Windows

This document provides instructions for installing the Windows version of SAS 9.4 on Windows 10 and 11. For information about obtaining SAS, please visit Software Distribution site.

Installation Requirements

  • SAS is only available for Windows 10 and Windows 11
  • At least 17GB of free space will be needed, but more may be needed if additional SAS modules will be installed
  • Full system requirements can be found at SAS System Requirements

Installation Steps

  1. It is recommended to close all other applications before attempting to install SAS
  2. Extract all files from the .zip file you received from the Software Distribution Office
  3. Run the setup.exe file and enter an administrator password if prompted
  4. Select the language in which you would like to go through the installation
  5. The SAS Deployment Wizard should start running
  6. Select Install SAS Software and click Next

  1. SAS should now ask for the location where the files should be installed
  2. The default directory should be C:\Program Files\SASHome, but this can be changed to another directory if preferred
  3. On the next screen, be sure to select Install SAS Foundation and Related Software, then click Next

  1. The next screen should show a large list of SAS Products to Install
  2. It is recommended to install the options selected by default, but you can choose the necessary products you need.

  1. After clicking Next, you will be prompted to select the version of the SAS Enterprise Guide you wish to install
  2. The 32-bit Compatibility Mode is recommended, as it may help SAS to better interface with other 32-bit applications
  3. After selecting the SAS Enterprise Guide, you should be prompted to select a SAS Installation Data File
  4. The SAS installation files include this installation file, so you should be able to click Next and continue with the installation
  5. The next page should ask for the languages that SAS should install. Many of them are selected by default, but you can click Uncheck all to deselect all languages other than English. You can also select any other languages in which you would like to use SAS.

  1. You will then be asked about the regional settings SAS should use. This will default to English (United States) [en-US] but this can be changed as needed.
  2. The next page will ask to choose a default application for SAS files. It's recommended to select SAS Foundation (64-bit). This should ensure all SAS files open in SAS 9.4 automatically.

  1. The next screen will ask about a host name and port number. Leave these as the default and click Next

  1. The system will do a few checks and you will be able to click Next once it is complete
  2. You should then be presented with a Deployment Summary Screen. This is where the actual installation will occur.
  3. Select Start to begin the installation

  1. After the installation completes, click Next

  1. You will see several support resources available to you

  1. Click Finish to complete the installation
