Service Description
RDMC provides research data management services to external clients (clients not affiliated with UNC). These services include:
Research Data Management Services
- Data Management and Sharing Services
- Consultation with RDMC data stewardship and architecture experts to understand and comply with data management and sharing regulations and requirements, operationalize data management and sharing standards and best practices into research workflows, and design solutions for unique data management and sharing challenges.
- Data Management and Sharing Training
- Specialized training in various data management and sharing subject and skill areas with learning objectives, instructional content, and modes of delivery tailored to individual project, organization, and/or participant needs.
- Research Data Curation Services
- Execution of standards-based data curation workflows for data file preparation and packaging, data quality review, metadata creation, and transfer into UNC Dataverse or another specified repository for long-term data archiving and sharing.
- Large-Scale Data Archiving
- Long-term archival storage for large-scale data, which includes the transfer of files into the UNC Dataverse repository system equipped with redundant backup file storage and technical safeguards to reduce the risk of file corruption or loss.
- Sensitive Data Archiving
- Long-term archival storage for research data that contain personally identifiable information (PII), protected health information (PHI), or other sensitive data requiring robust safeguards against unauthorized access, including information security controls, access restrictions, and other protective measures for compliance with institutional and federal privacy mandates.
- Data De-identification
- De-identification of data containing personally identifying information (PII) or protected health information (PHI), including a deductive disclosure risk assessment and development of an appropriate de-identification strategy with recommendations for protective policy- and/or technology-based measures as necessary to safeguard the privacy of human research participants.
- Reproducible Research Review
- Verification of the transparency and reproducibility of the computational results of quantitative research studies based on a comprehensive standards-based review of underlying data, code, and documentation, along with re-execution of the data analysis workflow.
UNC Dataverse services:
- UNC Dataverse Institutional Membership
- Repository provisioning and support to enable non-UNC-Chapel Hill institutions without a local data repository solution to establish a repository service that provides community member access to a designated institutional data repository in UNC Dataverse for archiving and sharing their research data.
- Technical Consulting and Subcontracting
- Dataverse Repository Installation and Consulting Services, including installing, customizing, and managing Dataverse.
Audience
These RDMC services are for researchers, faculty, and other customers who are not affiliated with UNC-CH and do not have a UNC Onyen.
