Canvas Support

Service Description

Canvas provides an online environment for teaching, learning, research, and other collaboration. Supported uses include UNC-Chapel Hill courses and academic and administrative projects.

Canvas is replacing Sakai as the University's learning management system. Sakai will no longer be available for active use after May 15, 2024 and will remain in an archived state for two additional years, until May 15, 2026.

Service Provisioning

Course sites: Sites for courses listed in ConnectCarolina are automatically created prior to the start of the semester. Development sites can be requested via the New Site Request Form in the event that instructors want to work on their course before the official course site has been created. Students have access to a course site when two conditions are met: the course start date has passed and the instructor of the course has published the site.

The New Site Request Form can also be utilized for sites that will be used for non-credit training, other instructional use, or administrative purpose (committee work, communications, reviews, etc.). Participants in project sites have access to those sites only after the site owner has added them to the site as a participant and published the site.
