This document explains how you can send mail from a vendor-hosted application or system using a custom unc.edu domain without triggering Office 365’s anti-spoofing system.
Decide on the domain name from which you want to send. For example, the domain name for info@email.unc.edu is “email.unc.edu”.
| Check-in DNS to see if that domain is in use, and what attributes it has, by going to a command prompt and typing: |
Nslookup
Set type=any
Domainname.unc.edu
Review the Results. You will be looking for any TXT record that starts with a “v-spf1”
Example "v=spf1 ip4:152.2.79.86 ip4:152.2.79.87 ip4:152.2.79.94 include:spf.protection.outlook.com -all"
If there is no domain with the name you have chosen you will need to navigate to this help article UNC Top Level Subdomains and follow the instructions to request a domain.
If you have a domain and wish to create or modify an existing SPF record you will need to submit a service request to the service desk.
In that request, you will need to provide the syntax for the SPF record you wish to create. See Example above.
All SPF, DKIM and DMARC requests require review and approval from ITS Systems Admins. Once approved they will route the request to ITS Networking to create the records.
