REDCap - Research Electronic Data CAPture

Service Description

REDCap (Research Electronic Data CAPture) is a secure, web-based platform that enables users to design and manage surveys and databases for data collection. The UNC Research Data Management Core (RDMC) offers three REDCap environments: REDCap Research, REDCap Operations, and REDCap Part 11, each tailored to different use cases.

REDCap Research is designed for academic and clinical research studies. It supports HIPAA-compliant data collection and is commonly used for IRB-approved studies, including clinical, behavioral, and translational research. This service includes tools for longitudinal data collection, participant surveys, and secure data management.

REDCap Operations is intended for administrative and operational use cases that are not classified as human subjects research. It is intended for internal business processes, quality improvement initiatives, event registrations, and general data tracking needs that do not require IRB oversight.

REDCap Part 11 is a specialized, highly controlled version of REDCap intended for research studies that are subject to FDA regulation and require compliance with 21 CFR Part 11. This environment supports the secure capture, storage, and audit of electronic records used in clinical trials and other regulated studies.

REDCap Part 11 must be used in conjunction with proper procedures, documentation, and study-level validation to meet regulatory requirements.

Please visit the RDMC REDCap website for more information.
