SDIS IT Services uses the ITS VMware Infrastructure to host administrative, academic, and research servers. SDIS IT Services does not purchase server hardware for Manning Hall; instead, we work with ITS to provision virtual servers. This eliminates up-front hardware costs and shifts on-going hardware maintenance to ITS. SDIS IT Services supports other aspects of server operations (OS maintenance, systems administration) and coordinates with ITS. Servers follow a configuration baseline including monitoring, vulnerability scanning, 2FA, CIS benchmarks, and OS patching throughout the server lifecycle. Annual cost depends on configuration (memory, disk) per ITS VMware Server Hosting service charges. For any question, email sdishelp@unc.edu.

Defaults: CPU=4, RAM=4 GB, System Disk=70 GB. Enter additional amounts if needed. Supported Operating System default is Ubuntu LTS.
